ABOUT (PURPOSE)

Hello everyone, 

            My name is Shamar Bryan Coxum and I would like to first off say thank you to all that have taken the time to come and view my site. I know that a lot of you have been waiting to see what I’ve been working on along with a lot of my other projects and for others this is the first time you have even heard of me, but hopefully you can  enjoy this as much as I have enjoyed creating it. This project is an ongoing Fashion image blog/website to showcase what I love to do which is illustrate and implement ideas that I think should be seen in Fashion. I’ve been illustrating and studying fashion informally for the past four or five years, including studying various fabrics and how to sew. Over the past couple of years, I’ve heard countless times, “Shamar, when are you going to do something with this stuff?” So after a while, I realized maybe I can do something with my designs and came to the conclusion of making this site.  These are all original pieces illustrated by me and have been witnessed by various people in the creation process. As you will see there are a lot of little symbols and icons that are on these pieces of clothes, shoes, or glasses. These are of two companies I’ve thought of, if I ever fully started a clothing company of my own. One being of my own name Shamar Bryan Coxum and another with the name Shaluka, a name a girl called me because she didn’t know my name; so she made up something silly like Shaluka to call me. I personally liked the name, so I started putting it on my designs as a representation of me that others don’t get to see, basically an alter-ego for fashion. I have many influences but among the ones of most relevant are: Maison Martin Margiela (Specifically his line with H&M back in 2012), Derek Mattison (specifically his Slimmer than Slimmer line), and of course the fashion man Marc Jacobs (Specifically his work when he was with Louis Vuitton). There are a couple of tribute pieces to old friends that I had made years ago. They had been number one in my school in their sport and since I have a strong love and passion for sports as well I drew up those pieces for them. 

 

Now that I've explained my past and what types of designs I'm doing, I want to explain my purpose for the site, plain and simple. I want to become a fashion designer and show that heart, focus,creativity, drive and discipline is more than something a degree can get me for my goals in the particular field I want to get ivloved in.
